I’ve seen other captains do it so thought it was only proper that i did the same. “Shall we go and have a look at the pitch?” I suggested to the North Leamington captain. He agreed. My first real action as a captain seemed to have gone down a storm. “The pitch looks interesting?”. I was hoping for suitably vague as I have no idea what to look for in a pitch, it was slightly yellow and covered in grass and white marks, a perfect pitch in my book. I just had to hope that i’d lose the toss so i didn’t have to make a decision. Damn, we won! In which case, take the bull by the horns and elect to bat!
What a decision it turned out to be, with 2 excellent innings from the Harbury borrowed players Matty & the other Tony B we put on an impressive Twenty20 total of 136. The talk of the innings had to be Peter Lewis, who managed to get run out for zero without even facing a ball. A total of zero off zero balls gives an infinite strike rate, possibly the highest i’ve ever seen!
The plan for the bowling was to keep their boundaries to an absolute minimum. This aim was realised with some excellent fielding and we managed to keep it to only 8 4′s in the whole innings. There was some excellent field placement, if i do say so myself despite some input from Bill, and a couple of well taken catches.
All in all, a job well done, and against a good batting side that usually beat us it’s fair to say i’m ‘Well Chuffed!’ with everyones performance, let’s keep it going for the next game.

I was so pleased that Tony got off to a great start with a splendid victory over North Leam. It was a difficult job as we had more ringers than a team of campanologists. He managed extremely well and had a good match himself which is often not possible when skippering. Of course, he was not to know about the spiritual powers of our new Battle Standard as this was only unveiled after the match.
