Helmet is Hero in Gattling batting collapse

The famous Hunningham Helmet

The famous Hunningham Helmet

The Hunningham Match Report

Hunningham 275 off 40 overs.
Gattling Fenns 49 off 15 overs.

Let us be positive from the start. Despite and absolute assault on our bowling by the Hunningham openers in which no one escaped, everyone stuck to the task. The fielding was often of a very high quality. We were simply outclassed. Possibly the saddest document that i have ever read is our uncompleted score sheet which looks as if our scorers were war correspondents who, having witnessed the carnage, fled for their lives.

Credit must go to Colin Grinham and Richard Holmes who, when we were 1 for 3, showed outstanding resolution.

In a lighter moment, a carelessly placed fielding helmet by Hunningham gave us 5 penalty extras. This enabled the helmet to be our third highest scorer!

Sitting at the end of our table during tea, i was able to get a good view of you all. I reflected on what a great bunch you are. So chin up everyone.

Peter.

Personally i think it is a case of ‘Gattling Team lacks strong leadership!’

Dear Tony I must have seen the new website in its’ prototype stage when I first clicked on. This is wonderful. On the subject of leadership,I have heard that there might be a coup in the offing. Some rascals are already talking of replacing you in favour of “The Helmet”

Yes Tony you are right! The Umpire captained the side and …… was the only not out player on the Gattling side! however during a low moment I offered their umpire the opportunity to sort out the field placings because it didn’t matter where I put them the ball did not go there!

Replaced? Before i even have a chance to shine? We’ll have to see at the next game, I’ll have to knock this mutinous trait out of everyone!

  5. Pete says

Dear Tony Here is a good pub quiz question. What preceded both Ivan The Terrible and Boris Godunov’s mighty armies into battle? Answer: A man carrying a Russian religious icon. I believe we lost at Hunningham for the lack of such a talisman. Relax! Am working on it ! Pete

I see now Tony ‘Mutiny on the Boundary!’
