Inaugural Presidents Boule Championship

BREAD PUDDING KEY FACTOR IN RESULTS

It is imperative at the outset of this report to give our sincere thanks to the Half-Crown Petanque Club of Stockton for their splendid hospitality. Not only did they show us how to play but joined in and encouraged our efforts as well as laying on much needed hot beverage. This, together with a history of the present Petanque situation both locally and country-wide made for a most interesting day. Tributes also to our president, Roger, for organising such an unusual event.

The matches themselves were keenly fought with increasing skill as we progressed. There was a marvellous Gattling moment when Roger handed me my boules at the end of a match only for me to find a large bird dropping on one of them. I think this is called “Un Merde do Oiseau” in Petanque Parlance! Needless to say it was a shock to realise that i was in the presence of a One-Upmanship Master.

The eventual winner was Simon who adds the Onion Trophy to his burgeoning trophy cabinet. The Garlic booby prize went to Ann. Both she and I had the bread pudding during the lunch break. This was absolutely delicious but seriously affected our after-lunch performances. Many thanks to all who took part in appalling conditions.
